NBS Bank Plc invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates to fill the following vacancies at the Head Office in Blantyre.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Head of Strategy, Innovation, and Digital Banking, the successful candidate will manage and oversee the bank’s research and development activities to drive innovation and support strategic objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following, among other responsibilities:

  • Conduct market and industry research.
  • Develop and update the R&D strategic plan annually.
  • Conduct comprehensive market and competitive analysis. Monitor and report on the implementation of R&D initiatives. Develop long-term and short-term R&D goals.
  • Analyze industry trends and their impact on R&D activities.
  • Identify growth opportunities through R&D and develop business cases. Coordinate cross-functional teams for R&D project implementation. Evaluate the performance of new R&D initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and feedback for R&D. Monitor market developments and competitor R&D activities. Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for R&D.
  • Conduct performance reviews of R&D projects and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Analyze R&D performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Manage the R&D budget and collaborate with finance for accurate budget tracking.
  • Ensure alignment of R&D partnership activities with the bank’s strategic goals. Maintain high organizational standards for managing R&D tasks and resources effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in banking, finance, or a related environment, with at least three (3) years at a managerial level.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., project management) are advantageous. Experience in R&D management or a related role within the financial sector.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the bank’s objectives.
  • Proficiency in R&D methodologies and tools.
  • Analytical skills for interpreting data and performance metrics to drive strategic initiatives.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborative skills for working with senior management and other departments.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and organizational needs.
  • Competence in developing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs).
