Grant Thornton have been retained by their client in the NGO Sector to carry out an Executive Search for suitably qualifying persons to fill the position of Program Manager tenable in Lilongwe. PROGRAM MANAGER

Position purpose

Reporting to the Head of Programs, the purpose of the position is the implementation of the organisation’s programs in Malawi. The position holder will coordinate annual program planning and implementation across all the strategic imperatives, ensuring quality delivery as well as providing technical and supportive supervision to the Programs team.

The Program Manager will also have the responsibility to coordinate implementation of Malawi Education Reform Program (MERP) project, serving as a liaison with stakeholders as assigned by and in support of the Head of Programs.

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Project Management, Social Work, Social Sciences or any other related fields
  • At least eight years working experience in program implementation, with 3 years’ experience in a management role.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the organisation’s values including safeguarding and equity and to achieving the organisation’s mission.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues from a range of functions and countries.
  • Proactivity, efficiency and attention to detail.
  • A flexible, proactive approach to work

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Program Planning and Implementation

  • Manage the development of the organisation’s Annual Program Work-plan and related budget including programs related quarterly expenditure authorization
  • Coordinate District level Program planning, including providing appropriate guidance and tools to Program Officers and District staff to develop aligned plans
  • Facilitate routine program monitoring, supportive supervision and provide technical support to the Programs team in delivery

2. Team Management

  • Line Management of Program officers, including performance management and supportive supervision and mentorship in their roles coordinating District teams
  • Work closely with the Head of Programs in overall team management towards a highly motivated and high performing team at all levels.

3. Knowledge management, learning and reporting

  • Work together with MEL team, ensuring lessons and the learning are fully integrated into programme development
  • Curate and facilitate periodic learning and sharing sessions to build a learning culture that continuously enhances programme quality, innovation and team capacity

4. Stakeholder and partnership management

  • Ensure good governance is adhered to in all programs partnerships, supporting the Engagement Director and Heads of Programs.
  • Ensure compliance with key internal policies as well as donor agreements/contracts in delivery of programmes – core principles, deliverables, timeliness and targets
