VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

ANNOUNCEMENT OF BOARD OF DIRECTOR POSITION

BACKGROUND

Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication’s board is seeking to appoint three new board members to replace members who have served their terms of office. We are seeking to recruit eligible, dedicated and skilled people to join a team of committed board members whose aim is to oversee the continued growth of Pakachere IHDC, delivery of effective services to the targeted communities as well as being accountable to both its donors, government and the project beneficiaries.

Main Responsibilities & Reporting Relationship

The Board is the principal governing body of Pakachere IHDC. The primary role of the Board is to provide policy guidance, financial oversight, strategic orientation and leadership to Pakachere. The Board is also expected to support senior management of Pakachere IHDC in Malawi in fulfilling the organization’s vision, mission and strategic plan.

Specific Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities of the Board of Director include (but are not limited to):

  • Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and evaluate the process and results.
  • Support management in the development of new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
  • Reach out to various stakeholders for the good of the organization, advocate and fundraise both domestically and globally.
  • Promote ethical behaviour and business practices and ensure that own behaviour and the behaviour of others is consistent and aligned with standards and values of the organization.
  • Meeting and communicating regularly or as needed with all members of the Board and providing feedback and input to committees as appropriate through the committee chairpersons.
    Attending committee meetings where appropriate.
    In consultation with the Board Chairperson, review and assess the performance of the Country Director.
  • Anticipate, understand, and support management in responding to the needs of internal and external stakeholders to meet or exceed the expectations within the organizational parameters
  • Work co-operatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.

Qualification and Experience

  • Eligible candidates must possess any of the following qualifications and experience.
  • Senior Finance/accounting professional with vast NGO Management experience.
  • A Governance/Management Expert with legal qualifications and a background.
  • High level programming of HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health, social work and development communication.
  • Gender, equity and social inclusion.
  • Experience working in the NGO sector is required but not a must.

Prospective candidates must:

  • Clearly indicate their area of expertise as stated above.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the legal duties and responsibilities and the role of the Board of Director
  • Track record of interacting with governments, donors, the corporate and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience in governance and leadership, strategic planning and delivery and Consensus Oriented.

Benefits and expectations

The role of a board member is unpaid and voluntary position. However reasonable expenses are paid to cover travel, accommodation and other costs that members may spend. Board members are expected to attend at least two board meetings per year and two board committee meetings per year as well as participate in other high-level engagements that will require the presence of the board member. Board meetings are currently held Friday late afternoons at venues agreed by board and management. Board members are required to read and sign a board charter as well as conflict of interest polices before being admitted to the board.

Term of Office: The term of office of board members is one three-year term renewable once.
