In Malawi, MSF collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health and the local community, particularly in the Cervical Cancer project in the Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts, as well as the CBO Project in Zalewa and Dedza District.

PHYSIOTHERAPIST SUPERVISOR – 1 POSITION

Workplace                   :        Blantyre

Type of contract :  1 Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension Start date :   January 2025

Main purpose of the position

Supervising, monitoring, and evaluating all daily activities related to physical rehabilitation in the CC project. Strengthening the integration of the physiotherapy activities into all project activities, working in close collaboration with the hospital’s multidisciplinary team (MDT).

 

Job Summary

  • Monitors patient’s flow in the physio pathway, from admission to discharge, which includes:
    • optimizing compliance with the referral criteria for physio.
    • promoting the appropriate patient follow-up frequency.
    • supporting referrals to other facilities when indicated.
    • keeping the physio cohort up to date in the required databases (Excel ‘ EMR). ✓ ensuring patients discharges according to discharge criteria.
  • Stimulates communication with the MDT, strengthening the integration of physio in the CC pathway of care.
  • Provides patient care in line with the referral criteria for physio.
  • Organizes and monitors the workload, patient distribution, rotations IPD/OPD/HBC, and proceeds with needed adjustments.
  • Provides technical and organizational support to the level 5 physio(s) under her/his supervision.
  • In the event of annual/sick/study leave, prioritizes, and replaces the level 5 physio’s clinical tasks.
  • Monitors the availability, correct use, and maintenance of the physio equipment.
  • Issues bi-weekly pharma orders and monthly log IR.
  • Supports and supervises daily data collection.
  • Reports monthly to the MAM on physio Indicators, Achievements, Challenges, Plan for the following month. Reports on quarter and annual reviews of the physio activities to the MAM and physio referent (HQ).
  • Pre-validates staff’s annual leave and organizes the replacements to ensure the continuity of care Regularly evaluates the physio activities in line with the project’s defined objectives
  • Attends bi-weekly managers’ meetings and bi-weekly hospital meetings.
  • Instructs and reinforces implementations of new procedures and policies
  • The supervisor may be involved in the clinical capacity building associated with the physio decentralization strategy:
    • Co-responsible for capacity-building when trainees come to Blantyre
    • Co-responsible for remote support (case discussions, organizational matters, data collection & reporting)

 

Requirements

Education Degree in Physiotherapy
Experience A minimum of 5 years of physiotherapy experience; prior experience with MSF is an added advantage.
Languages English and Chichewa essential
