Organizational Setting
FAO in cooperation with the Government of Malawi and with funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) are rolling out implementation of the project on Ecosystems-based Adaptation for Resilient Watersheds and Communities in Malawi (EbAM). The project aims at creating more climate resilient livelihoods in vulnerable communities as landscapes and ecosystems’ capacity to supply goods and services will be enhanced as well as farmers’ ability to use them in a way that is sustainable and adapted to climate change. This will be achieved through increased climate resilience of watershed ecosystems, stabilization of productivity and farmers’ incomes and enhanced enabling environment (finance and policies) to sustain, replicate and scale-up climate resilient watershed ecosystems and agriculture practices. The project will be implemented in 11 districts in Malawi over a period of 6 years. Close to 575,000 vulnerable people in rural communities will benefit from the project’s initiatives while at the same time, more than 83,000 heTAres will be restored through the application of Ecosystem-based Adaptation, thus generating significant environmental and mitigation benefits.
The positions are located in Lilongwe.
Reporting Lines
The Drivers will be based at the EbAM Central Project Implementation Unit (CPIU) in Lilongwe; and will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR) in Malawi, the direct supervision of the International Administrative Officer (IAO), and the day-to-day coordination of the Logistic Specialist.
Technical Focus
The Drivers will be responsible for driving EbAM project team members to various places within and outside their duty stations for duty travels. They ensure the safety, technical soundness and comfort of the vehicles assigned to them.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Drive project team members and official visitors on official trips.
- Meet staff and official visitors and take them to and facilitate hotel check in and perform other local formalities.
- Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, transportation/vehicle related expenditures, vehicle servicing, repairs, etc.
- Ensure day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); check oil, water, battery, tyres, etc.; perform minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle(s) in clean condition.
- Obtain vehicle service quotations to facilitate vehicle repairs.
- Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident, ensure that in this case all organizational and local/country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly.
- Collect and deliver mail, documents and other communications/items to and from the country office and other locations; go to government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications; keep records as required.
- When needed, assist the field office staff in performing simple clerical duties such as making and answering telephone calls, making photocopies, filing of records, etc.
- Support the field office with basic activities related with security, particularly be responsible for security reporting when FAO staff is on mission (following the UN Security Office rules and procedures).
- Ensure that rules and regulations for transportation within UN are duly observed as per FAO internal rules and regulations.
- Provide logistical support to FAO staff when it is required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Successful completion of Secondary School Education and possession of a professional valid driver’s license. A defensive driving certificate is mandatory.
- Experience: At least three years of work experience as a driver. Flawless and safe driving record.
- Languages: Working knowledge (Level C) of English Knowledge of Malawi local languages of the duty station.
- Nationality of Malawi.

Selection Criteria
- Desirable experience with International Organizations and Government entities.
