Background

Inter Aide is an international organisation specialised in the implementation of programmes that promote access to development for the most vulnerable communities. Inter Aide has been working in Malawi since 1992 with interventions around Health, Water Point Maintenance and Agricultural development in the Central and Southern regions of Malawi.

Inter Aide, in collaboration with local partners and the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Department (DAHLD) from the Ministry of Agriculture, has developed over the last fifteen years an expertise on the implementation of community vaccinators networks allowing the vaccination of chickens against the Newcastle Disease to improve the nutrition and incomes of small-scale rural producers.

The current program operates in Lilongwe, Zomba, and Phalombe districts and benefits more than 85,000 families. A new phase of the program, funded by the French Development Agency, started in September 2023 and aims 1) To support the government of Malawi in improving the production of 1-2 vaccine and its quality control; 2) Extending the network of vaccinators to six additional districts; and 3) Supporting the Government of Malawi to improve the governance of the sector.

Inter Aide is looking to hire Field Facilitators (2 positions) and 1 M&E Officer for one-year with possibility of extension. They will be travelling 80/90% of their time.

About the Position

Job Title: Field Facilitator (FF) based in Maching and Phalombe

The position holder will work autonomously under the direct supervision of the Coordinator or Field Supervisor. He/she will work closely with the regional team and project collaborators, officers from the government structure, community vaccinators associations/sub-associations/clusters, and traditional authorities.

Duties and Responsibilities

In this capacity, the Field Facilitators will be responsible for:

  • Oversee and coordinate field activities with Community Vaccinators (CVs) and Sub-Associations, Ensuring timely distribution of vaccination vials and accurate collection of reports during campaigns.
  • Manage weekly transfers of vial refunds from CVs, ensuring proper completion of cash collection forms, accurate accounting, and timely transfer of funds to the Coordinators.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with CVs, sub-associations to enhance their group dynamics, monitor progress, and facilitate skill development towards autonomy.
  • Monitor and control CVs and Sub-Associations’ records, including vial refund documentation, attendance registers, and data reports, ensuring consistency with Field Facilitator (FF) reports.
  • Identify gaps in coverage, recruit and mentor new CVs to address deficiencies, ensuring effective training and support until Independence is achieved.
  • Submit regular reports, including fortnightly reports, storage monitoring forms, and data/cash collection forms, promptly to the Coordinator, highlighting any program changes or challenges.
  • Attend and actively participate in Executive Committee (EC) meetings and staff meetings
  • Network with stakeholders and government structures as well as representing the program in local meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as Community Development, Social Work, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a diploma in these fields and two years of work experience in monitoring and evaluation can be considered
  • A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in community engagement, or development work is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and understanding local or goverment structures is valuable.
  • The ideal candidate should have sound skills in executing and coordinating field activities.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English, Yao and Chichewa. Candidates who speak Yao very well will be given preference according to the location.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Familiarity with the statistical packages and software (SPSS etc.) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, motivation for field work, flexibility, and dynamism are required.
  • Able to work within a strict policy framework regarding employee, partner, and beneficiary allowances/handouts.
  • A Category A or A1 driving license (for motorbike) is mandatory.
