TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES – 2024/2025 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
St John’s Institute for Health (formerly called St John’s College of Nursing & Midwifery) is one of the eleven (11) Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) member training colleges operating in Malawi. The Institute was opened in 1963 by the Medical Missionary of Mary Sisters (MMM) and is the Health Training Arm of the Catholic Health Commission, under the proprietorship of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE NOVEMBER, 2024 INTAKES
The Institute is inviting suitably qualified candidates to pursue the following health training programs for 2024 November Intake: College Diploma in Nursing Midwifery
Technician (NMT); Diploma in Public Health (DPH) Certificate in Clinical Medicine (Medical Assistants), and Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Assistants).
CERTIFICATE IN CLINICAL MEDICINE
This is a full-time 24-month Program.
- Candidates should be at least 17 years old and not exceeding 40 years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with Three credits including English and Two from the following science subjects: Biology. Mathematics, Physical science: Chemistry or Physics
DIPLOMA IN PUBLIC HEALTH
This is a 36-Month-full-time Program.
- Candidates should be at least 16 years and not exceeding 45 years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with four credits in English, and any two Science Subjects
COLLEGE DIPLOMA IN NURSING & MIDWIFERY
This is a 36-Month-full-time Program.
- Candidates should be at least 16 years and not exceeding 45 years of Candidates should be at least 17 years and not exceeding 45years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with four credits in English, Biology, and Physical Science or chemistry or physics plus one of the following science subjects: Mathematics, Agriculture; Geography, Home Economics, General Science.
NOTE: If Mathematics is not a credit, it should at least be a strong pass of 7 points.
CERTIFICATE IN PHARMACY
This is a 24-Month-full-time Program.
- Candidates should be at least 17 years and not exceeding 45 years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with a strong pass in English and Two credits in Science subjects, namely, Biology. Mathematics, and Physical Science or (as separate subjects; chemistry or physics)

1) that there are no scholarships, so, candidate and/or their prospective sponsors should make sure they have reliable sources of support all through.
2) the Diocese has offered out a newly constructed 76-bed hostel at a cost-sharing arrangement for female students. The hostel is at a 5-minute walk distance from the campus, and space is equally competitive, thus, booking should be done now as you make the application – “Booking for space at the Eileen Browne Hostel”.
