Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA) is implementing a project entitled “Improving Smallholder Resilience through Customized Climate Services.” with financial support from the Development Fund of Norway through a consortium of NORCAP under the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI), and Norwegian Research Centre (NORCE). Funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), the consortium brings together expertise across the research practitioner divide to address identified needs and gaps in the climate services value chain in Malawi.

CEPA seeks to fill the following positions under the project:

Field Officers

Possible Locations: Machinga, Ntchisi, Mzimba, Rumphi

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, budget, monitor, and report on project-based activities;
  • Liaise with project partners and government personnel in the dissemination of seasonal forecasts and advisories;
  • Train farmers on how to interpret and make use of weather/climate forecasts and advisories;
  • Train farmers in the use of climate services in agriculture decisions;
  • Facilitate implementation of climate services interventions;
  • Provide technical support to farmers in context-specific climate services interventions including sustainable agriculture practices;
  • Work closely with the impact evaluation team and the project manager to implement the activities in strict adherence to the randomization protocol;
  • Ensure strict adherence to the research protocol by farmers targeted for climate services interventions; and
  • Collect field-level data on the progress of climate services interventions.

Required Qualifications

  • At least a first Degree in Agriculture, Environment, or related fields;
  • Experience in agriculture extension;
  • Knowledge of climate information services;
  • Knowledge of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs);
  • Research and documentation skills;
  • Project management skills;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in diverse rural environments; and
  • Excellent computer skills.
