Balaka District Council
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill Non-Established (NE) posts available in the Education Sector of Balaka District Council. The recruitment has been made possible with funding from the Save the Children Fund under a Numeracy and Literacy Program to be implemented for five (5) years from 2024 to 2028.
The posts are as follows:
Title : Assistant Accountant/Finance Officer
Reporting to : Program Coordinator
Responsibilities
- Manage all financial transactions and ensure accurate record-keeping of all transactions
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for program management and donors.
- Develop and monitor program budgets and expenditures.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures of the donor and the institution.
- Coordinate and facilitate financial audits with auditors.
- Process payroll and manage staff benefits.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Oversee procurement processes and ensure value for money.
- Provide financial training and support to program staff.
- Maintain up-to-date financial records and documentation.
- Manage cash flow and ensure timely disbursement of funds.
- Identify and mitigate program financial risks.
- Conduct routine bank reconciliations
- Any other roles assigned.
Competencies
- Strong ability to manage financial resources and prepare budgets.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and ability to prepare financial statements.
- Analytical skills to identify financial trends and insights
- Effective communication skills for presenting financial information.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools.
- High ethical standards, confidentiality, and transparency in financial dealings.
Qualification and Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Accounting, Auditing and Information Systems, Accountancy, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of progressive work experience in donor funded program.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
