MANAGEMENT PLACEMENT: LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE MANAGE

An opportunity has arisen to engage a qualified and experienced person to fill the Management position of Legal and Compliance Manager tenable at MBC Head office in Blantyre.

The MBC Management therefore invites applications from suitable candidates to fill this position on a permanent basis.

Purpose of the Position
To provide expert advice to Executive Management on contractual and legislative requirements, ensuring optimal compliance and risk management across the Corporation.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Evaluates and monitors the implications of contractual, legislative, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Develops and disseminates procedures to promote adherence to contractual, legislative, and regulatory standards.
  • Assesses the impact of legislative changes on the Corporation and ensure all directorates are informed.
  • Supportsthe compliance process for all existing and prospective contracts, including conducting legal audits.
  • Participates in crisis planning and training to ensure effective continuity and risk management.
  • Leads and participates in internal investigations as required.
  • Maintains compliance registers, including but not limited to the Conflict of Interest Register, Gifts Register, Legal & Compliance Register, and Risk Register.
  • Conducts legal and governance projects, provides staff support, and delivers training.
  • Advises management on contractual and legislative matters.
  • Ensures optimal compliance and risk management across the Corporation’s policies.
  • Represents the Corporation in legal proceedings, including court appearances, to advocate and protect the Corporation’s interests.

Required Academic and Professional Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution
  • Duly admitted to practice law, and registered and in good standing with the Malawi Law Society.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in legal and compliance roles at a senior level.
