GENDER, YOUTH, EQUITY, DIVERSITY & SOCIAL INCLUSION SPECIALIST

Position Description
The Gender, Youth, Equity, Diversity & Social Inclusion (GYEDSI) Specialist will provide thought leadership on developing, iterating and adapting the CARE Malawi Gender, Youth and Social Inclusion strategy, ensuring our interventions are truly contributing to transformational change and systems improvement for women, youth, and people with disabilities. This role will lead in developing capacity including gender modules, tools, related policies and strategies as well as working collaboratively to integrate gender, equity, diversity and inclusion approaches in programming and human resource processes ranging from recruitment, orientation to performance management. The incumbent will provide gender technical leadership and steers processes that include gender and youth programming quality assurance from intervention design, through delivery, impact measurement to closure.

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Lead the development of the GYEDSI strategy which will guide the integration of GYEDSI concepts and approaches into all program activities, including technical implementation, monitoring, operations, policies, and procedures.
• Collaborate with the CARE Malawi Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Program teams, and other personnel on GYEDSI strategy implementation and monitoring.
• Lead or assist in the design and implementation of GYEDSI analyses, impact assessments, and support the integration of GYEDSI into other learning studies.
• Provide technical advice and trainings to program staff, partners, and stakeholders to build their capacity to integrate gender, youth, and other relevant social considerations into designing interventions, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
• Review and provide input to project work plans, with attention to GYEDSI dimensions of technical activities and operations and discuss GYEDSI issues and priorities with project senior management and other technical specialists.
• Work with technical teams to incorporate GYEDSI into collaboration, learning, and adapting (CLA) plans and practices, including developing GYEDSI indicators and learning questions, incorporating GYEDSI issues into pause and reflect sessions, and ensuring that the project reports on GYEDSI outcomes and impacts.
• Lead or assist in the preparation of reports and documents for submission to CARE Malawi project donors, CARE USA and CARE Member Partners.

Required education and experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Gender, International Development, or relevant field is required; Master’s Degree is desired.
• Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible experience in development programming, preferably in an agricultural, food systems context, including 5 years of experience in GYSI programming.
• Knowledge of and experience with USAID rules and regulations related to GYSI is required.
• Knowledge of do no harm, women’s empowerment, and positive youth development frameworks and approaches is required.
• Knowledge of the intersection of GYSI with agricultural or food systems and/or climate change strongly preferred.
• Experience in developing and conducting gender, youth and inclusion training, gender/youth/social dynamics mainstreaming and engaging in gender advocacy.
• Preference for experience with projects addressing resilience, agriculture, natural resources management, agribusiness, peacebuilding and conflict management.
• Demonstrated capacity to lead the collection, analysis and utilization of information from a broad range of sources to ensure effective integration of gender and youth concerns throughout CARE Malawi’s 5-year strategy.
