BACKGROUND

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is a Statutory Corporation established by the Investment and Export Promotion Act of 2024. It is mandated to promote and facilitate investment and exports in Malawi, facilitate allocation of land to investors and regulate, implement, monitor and supervise all aspects of the special economic zones

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is planning to recruit An Investment Promotion Officer to fill an existing vacancy.

POSITION: INVESTMENT PROMOTION OFFICER

The Investment Promotion Officer post is at Grade MITC5 on the authorized establishment. The Investment Promotion Officer will be responsible to the Investment Promotion Manager at Grade MITC3. He/she will be instrumental to the effectiveness of the Investment Promotion Functions by supporting the Investment Promotion Manager to work with executives of current or prospective investor companies, both foreign and local. He/she will also be required to consult and coordinate regularly with officials of government agencies as well as with local and municipal authorities, public and private utility and business service companies, financial institutions and local business associations.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Drafting written responses to inquiries or requests for information/ assistance received from prospective investors for approval by senior executives.
  2. Registering leads in a CRM platform and follow-up activities utilizing MITC’s investor tracking system.
  3. Organizing and delivering presentation at local and international investment promotion workshops, seminars and conferences
  4. Following-up investor inquiries to determine specific interests and requirements
  5. Under senior executive supervision, implementing active marketing activities such as direct mail and telemarketing campaigns.
  6. Meeting with and providing information, counselling and support to local and foreign investors interested in exploring new business opportunities in Malawi
  7. Assisting prospective investors in arranging site visits and in obtaining necessary government approvals, permits and licenses
  8. Reporting monthly on the status of assigned investor leads
    Conduct preliminary due diligence on new investors
  9. Facilitate both inward and outward investment promotion initiatives
  10. Work closely with domestic project promoters in project preparation pitching.
  11. Any other duties as assigned.

Major Working Relationships

Investment Promotion Officer will work in collaboration with the Investment Promotion Manager in all Investment responsibilities in relation with all stakeholders.

Competences and qualifications

  • The Investment Promotion Officer should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • He or she should be a highly experienced professional with a minimum of two years of private sector experience in marketing, sales, or public relations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and basic computer literacy are essential.
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages is an added advantage.
