Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA)
The Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) was established by Section 7 (1) of the Environment Management Act (EMA) of 2017 as the principal agency for the protection and management of the environment and sustainable utilization of natural resources. MEPA coordinates, monitors, supervises and consults with all relevant stakeholders on all activities relating to the utilization and management of the environment and natural resources.
The MEPA is inviting applications from suitable, highly qualified, experienced and motivated candidates to fill the position of: Environmental Assessments Manager tenable at its secretariat situated in Arwa House, City Center, Lilongwe.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL ASSESSMENTS MANAGER

Reporting to : Director of Director of Assessments and Inspections
Job summary
To support administration and compliance monitoring of environmental assessments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Advise the Authority on technical issues including procedures, guidelines and protocols on undertaking and review of Environmental Assessments.
- Coordinate review of Environmental Assessments reports.
- Coordinate compliance monitoring of Environmental Assessment approved projects.
- Propose and plan for capacity development in Environmental Assessment for relevant sectors at national and district levels.
- Coordinate the development of sectoral Environmental Assessment Guidelines in liaison with the lead agencies.
- Monitor implementation of annual work plans and budgets for the division.
- Prepare Advisory Committee on Environmental and Social Assessment (ACESA) documentation including minutes, annotated agenda and matters arising for the Board.
- Prepare ESIA Approval certificates.
- Supervise staff in the Environmental Assessment Section.
- Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by Management.
Qualifications and Experience
- MSc. or MA in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Natural Resources Management, or any related field
- At least five years’ experience in environmental assessment and inspections management position
Skills and abilities
- People management skills.
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and Access).
- High integrity, honesty personality, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
